What is SS321 stainless steel?
SS321 is an austenitic stainless steel based on 304, with titanium added. The titanium holds the carbon in the steel, so the metal keeps its corrosion resistance after welding and during long service between 425 °C and 815 °C, where ordinary 304 can lose it.
This makes 321 a standard choice for welded parts that run hot, such as exhaust systems, expansion bellows and refinery pipework. Tell us the form and size your drawing calls for, and we'll quote to that exact specification.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between SS321 and SS304?
321 is 304 with titanium added. The titanium stops chromium carbides forming at weld zones and in long service at 425–815 °C, so 321 keeps its corrosion resistance where 304 can suffer weld decay.
SS321 or SS347: which should I use?
Both are stabilised grades. 321 uses titanium and 347 uses niobium. 321 is more widely available and covers most high-temperature welded work; 347 is sometimes specified for very aggressive conditions.
What is the maximum temperature for SS321?
About 925 °C in continuous service and about 900 °C where heating and cooling cycles are frequent.
Is SS321 magnetic?
No. SS321 is austenitic, so it is non-magnetic in the annealed condition. Cold working may make it very slightly magnetic.
